Zale 2Q sales down 7.3 percent - National Jeweler

Same-store sales for Zale Corp. decreased 7.3 percent for the second quarter ended Jan. 31, and revenues decreased 7.3 percent to $827 million, compared with $892 million for the same period last year, the company announced today. These amounts, both current and comparable, exclude revenues from the Bailey Banks and Biddle stores, which Zale sold to Finlay Fine Jewelry Corp. on Nov. 9, 2007. The company commented that while same-store sales in January increased 5.7 percent, approximately 3 percentage points were related to the timing of a Valentine's Day customer-appreciation event.
