Gold -1% -- Profits Soar at Barrick, Gold Fields

Gold fell 1.1 percent on the week to $913.70 an ounce in late morning trading today. From one year ago though gold has gained 38 percent. Gold began its most recent historic climb in August 2007. Platinum shed 5.1 percent to $1,641 an ounce on the week or about where it was in late January 2008 before its record run.  Platinum is up 29 percent from one year ago. Silver is up 1.8 percent to $17.33 an ounce, and has gained 37 percent from one year ago.
